Wadi al shajni, Palestine

Wadi al Shajni

The colourful village of Wadi al Shajni sits in a valley lined with luscious fir trees. The cluster of homes is separated from the surrounding trees by large, dry stone walls, reminiscent of a classic English countryside hamlet.

Although, new buildings are springing up throughout the village as it continues to grow in defiance of the relentless conflict it has witnessed just adjacent to the entrance of the Al Fawar refugee camp.

What To Do

Wadi al Shajni is a very green and attractive old village. The nearby spring of Ein al delba attracts people from Al Fawar camp and all of the surrounding villages with its icy fresh and pure water. While nearby Hebron is a remarkable, historic city still smarting from decades of conflict and political tension but well worth a visit.

Where To Eat

Fresh produce, snacks and cold drinks can be purchased from shops and stalls in Dura and Yatta, while there are also small restaurants serving up traditional Palestinian fare such as shawarma, falafel and hummus. Yet the Hebron neighbourhood of Ras al-Jora is the place to find a multitude of restaurants.

Where To Stay

Dura is just 11km southwest of Hebron, where there are four hotels. Alternatively, there is a great range of accommodation in Bethlehem, Jerusalem or Ramallah.
