Stalls piled high with everything from olive oil soap to woodwork souvenirs make the beautiful stone streets even narrower than they already are. But Bethlehem’s lively market is a fantastic place to stroll through, sample some local speciality sweet cakes or browse for a gift.
The food market is found up an enticing stone staircase, and a cacophony of noise and activity awaits inside. The Old City itself numbers around 5,000 in population and consists of seven quarters, six Christian and one Muslim, each with its own beautiful architecture.
